Tucson YSA 1st Ward

14 September 2025

Hey y'all! It seemed like a lot of y'all had a great time last Wednesday with the club tables and then line dances spanning the length of the gym!. Well done to those of you who participated despite feeling out of your comfort zone! (Disclaimer: as a member of the social dance club, I might be a little bit biased). Regardless, we've got a great week coming up, starting with an outdoor party for Home Evening (address below) and karaoke on Wednesday. There's also a talent show on Friday. I heard that if enough people update their pictures on Member Tools by then, Bishop Rustand and Bishop Wilkes will sing a song for us at the talent show. I'm not sure what constitutes 'enough,' but I'm confident we can reach it. Updated photos really help us as a bishopric and ward council get to know who's who in the ward, and it's a huge help as we try to determine who's actually still here, especially with all the necessary changes to ministering assignments. If you're not comfortable with everyone seeing your photo, you can always set that to private by limiting the visibility to 'ward/stake leadership.' This hides it from everyone except the ward council and your ministering brothers/sisters. If you would like help with the process, reach out to Jacob Griner or me and we'd be happy to help you out.

Here's what's coming up:

  • Gathering Place Club Spotlight:

    • Some great ideas for additional clubs were suggested last Wednesday with all the existing club tables - the Gathering Place is looking for people who want to lead/attend new clubs. The biggest thing for establishing a new club is a leader/organizer who is passionate about it

      • Talk to Elder or Sister Nielsen if you're interested in leading or participating in a new club!

      • Current suggestions for new clubs include:

        • Cooking Club

        • 90's Kids

        • Book Club

        • Social Skills

        • Self-Defense

        • Hiking Club

        • Computer Programming Club

        • Other ideas you might have

  • Lots of other Gathering Place activities at the institute every evening of the week

    • Calendar of events/activities for both wards: https://www.tucsonysa.org/

      • Special thanks to Orlando Rodriguez for keeping this up to date!

    • Give something new a try, even if you're skeptical - you might find something you like! I discovered a love for dancing at social dance nights every Saturday night (now at 7:00pm) and recommend that to everyone. This month we're learning country swing (this week will be Cowboy Cha Cha), with separate instruction for beginner and intermediate dancers, and then an open dance floor to practice and have a good time

Don't forget our ward goals:

  • Did I check on my ministering assignments this week?

  • Did I make or renew a covenant this week?

  • Did I pray sincerely with an eternal perspective this week?

  • Did I strive to include the Holy Ghost in my personal study this week?

  • Did I invite someone to participate in the Gospel of Jesus Christ this week?

  • Did I serve someone as Jesus Christ would have this week?
